From Social Sensor Data to Collective Human Behaviour Patterns – Analysing and Visualising Spatio-Temporal Dynamics in Urban Environments

چکیده
The digital traces that people continuously leave behind – voluntarily or not – while using communication devices such as mobile phones or interacting with social media platforms reflect their behaviour in great detail. In this paper we show examples of the spatiotemporal patterns of collective human dynamics, which we derived from ‘social sensor’ data. We used user-generated data in mobile networks and voluntarily published information at social media platforms, which both served as proxies for human activity and mobility. Results show collective human activity and mobility hotspots in selected European urban environments and thus provide additional insights into how collective social activity shape urban systems. We used different geo-visualisation techniques to effectively communicate the urban inherent spatial and temporal dynamics. Especially for education related purposes, this allows a better general understanding of collective human behaviour in urban environments.

Context-aware Modeling for Spatio-temporal Data Transmitted from a Wireless Body Sensor Network
Context-aware systems must be interoperable and work across different platforms at any time and in any place. Context data collected from wireless body area networks (WBAN) may be heterogeneous and imperfect, which makes their design and implementation difficult. In this research, we introduce a model which takes the dynamic nature of a context-aware system into consideration. This model is con...

Routing and data aggregation are two important techniques for reducing communication cost of wireless sensor networks (WSNs). To minimize communication cost, routing methods can be merged with data aggregation techniques. Compressive sensing (CS) is one of the effective techniques for aggregating network data, which can reduce the cost of communication by reducing the amount of routed data to t...
متن کاملUnderstanding Temporal Human Mobility Patterns in a City by Mobile Cellular Data Mining, Case Study: Tehran City
Recent studies have shown that urban complex behaviors like human mobility should be examined by newer and smarter methods. The ubiquitous use of mobile phones and other smart communication devices helps us use a bigger amount of data that can be browsed by the hours of the day, the days of the week, geographic area, meteorological conditions, and so on. In this article, mobile cellular data mi...
متن کاملUbiquitous Geo-Sensing for Context-Aware Analysis: Exploring Relationships between Environmental and Human Dynamics
Ubiquitous geo-sensing enables context-aware analyses of physical and social phenomena, i.e., analyzing one phenomenon in the context of another. Although such context-aware analysis can potentially enable a more holistic understanding of spatio-temporal processes, it is rarely documented in the scientific literature yet. In this paper we analyzed the collective human behavior in the context of...

Meteorological phenomena, in particular rapid events with local dynamics such as the onset of heavy rainfall, may have several instantaneous impacts on human behaviour. These impacts include, for example, the utilization of private or public transportation or the scheduling of personal and business activities. Given the increasing accuracy of weather forecasting at any scale, understanding the ...
